Empowering young people with health and medical needs to thrive through high-quality alternative education
Great Heights Partner Provision offers a nurturing, inclusive and high-quality alternative education for children and young people who are unable to attend mainstream school due to health needs, including social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) challenges, or other medical conditions.
Available to all children of compulsory school age living in the Kirklees Local Authority area, our provision ensures that pupils who are temporarily unable to attend their regular school receive an engaging, personalised education that supports both academic progress and personal wellbeing.
Access to the provision is through referral from a pupil’s mainstream school, supported by medical advice from a consultant.
At Great Heights Partner Provision, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to succeed, despite the challenges they might face. We provide a calm, supportive learning environment where pupils feel valued, respected and empowered to re-engage with education.
Our team includes a Personal Development and Wellbeing Coach, a primary specialist and a range of secondary-trained subject specialists. Together, we work with schools, families, and health professionals to build personalised learning pathways tailored to each young person’s needs.
Where appropriate, pupils attend one of our two dedicated Partner Provision Hubs, either in Batley or Linthwaite. Location is determined by the pupil’s home address to minimise travel.
Pupils can access up to 25 hours of education per week, depending on their individual medical needs. The curriculum focuses on core academic subjects, including:
Pupils also benefit from enrichment sessions in non-core subjects, promoting creativity, confidence and personal development.
Our goal is to support pupils back into mainstream education when they are well enough. Each pupil receives a personalised reintegration plan, developed in collaboration with families, schools, and relevant professionals.
We view transition as a journey – one that requires trust, preparation and the right support. Through coaching and wellbeing support, we help pupils understand and manage change, build resilience, and rediscover their identity as learners.
